How KUAT Scores Affect Your Kuwait University Equivalent Rate: 3 Worked Examples

Your Kuwait University equivalent rate is not simply your school percentage.

For most colleges, Kuwait University combines your secondary-school result with the Academic Aptitude Test scores required by that college. The weights are different from one college to another.

That means the same student can have a different equivalent rate depending on the college being considered.

Below are three worked examples using the 2026/27 weights published by Kuwait University.

The basic idea

If a college uses 75% school, 15% English and 10% Maths, you do not add the three raw scores. You multiply each score by its weight and then add the weighted results.

Example 1 — Medicine

For 2026/27, Kuwait University lists Medicine as:

• Secondary school: 75%
• English aptitude test: 15%
• Mathematics aptitude test: 10%

Suppose a student has school 95%, English 80% and Maths 70%.

95 × 0.75 = 71.25
80 × 0.15 = 12.00
70 × 0.10 = 7.00

71.25 + 12 + 7 = 90.25

The student's equivalent rate in this example is 90.25%.

A KUAT score does not replace the school result. It contributes according to the weight assigned to that subject.

Example 2 — Pharmacy

For Pharmacy, the published 2026/27 weights are 70% secondary school, 15% English and 15% Maths.

Suppose the student has school 92%, English 75%, Maths 80%.

92 × 0.70 = 64.40
75 × 0.15 = 11.25
80 × 0.15 = 12.00

64.40 + 11.25 + 12.00 = 87.65

Equivalent rate: 87.65%.

Here English and Maths have equal weight, so a five-point improvement in either test affects this formula by the same amount.

Example 3 — Engineering & Petroleum

For Engineering & Petroleum, the published weights are 65% secondary school, 15% English and 20% Maths.

Chemistry is marked with an asterisk. The table explains that the asterisk means the test is used for placement only and is not included in the equivalent-rate calculation.

Suppose the student has school 90%, English 70%, Maths 85%.

90 × 0.65 = 58.50
70 × 0.15 = 10.50
85 × 0.20 = 17.00

58.50 + 10.50 + 17.00 = 86.00

Equivalent rate: 86.00%.

For this college, Maths carries more weight than English, so improving Maths has a larger effect on the equivalent rate point-for-point.

A higher equivalent rate does not automatically mean admission

The formula tells you your equivalent rate. It does not secure you a seat.

Actual admission depends on the university's current rules, minimum application requirements, available places and the competitive cutoff reached for the relevant college or major.

Do not confuse “My equivalent rate is 86%” with “86% is enough to be admitted.” They are not the same statement.

What should you do with this information?

Work backwards from your target college.

Find out which tests count, how heavily each test is weighted, whether any test is placement-only, your current scores and which score you can realistically improve the most.
