How to Calculate Your Kuwait University Equivalent Rate: 3 Worked Examples

To calculate your Kuwait University equivalent rate, multiply your secondary-school percentage, English aptitude-test score and Mathematics aptitude-test score by your chosen college's weights. Then add the three contributions. The weights differ between colleges.
Equivalent rate = school percentage × school weight + English score × English weight + Maths score × Maths weight.
This guide uses the 2026/27 weights, with worked examples for Medicine, Pharmacy, and Engineering & Petroleum.

What is an equivalent rate?
An equivalent rate combines your school percentage and aptitude-test results using specified weights. For example, where school carries 75% of the calculation, a school percentage of 95 contributes 71.25 points to the final rate.
It is not the average of your three scores. Use your school percentage as recognised by the university, rather than entering a GPA out of four directly.
A calculated equivalent rate does not establish whether you will be admitted. Application conditions, available places and competition between applicants are separate from the arithmetic.
Kuwait University equivalent-rate weights for 2026/27
The calculator covers these nine colleges. The School, English and Maths columns show calculation weights, not minimum marks you must earn in each subject.

This is not a complete eligibility checklist. School qualifications, study streams and individual programmes may have additional requirements. Do not apply this three-score formula to a college outside the list. Some programmes also have specific requirements, such as the post-admission interview for Communication Disorders in Life Sciences.
Chemistry: For Engineering & Petroleum and Allied Health Sciences, the university table lists Chemistry for placement. It does not contribute to this equivalent-rate formula. Check the official testing requirements to establish which tests you need to take.
How to calculate your equivalent rate step by step
- Select your college before choosing the weights.
- Use your school percentage and aptitude-test scores out of 100. Do not enter the number of questions you answered correctly.
- Convert the weights to decimals: 15% becomes 0.15.
- Multiply each score by its weight and add the contributions. Keep the calculation precise, then round the final displayed result to two decimal places.
Example 1: Medicine
School 95%, English 80%, Maths 70%.

Equivalent rate = 64.40 + 11.25 + 12.00 = 87.65%.
Example 3: Engineering & Petroleum
School 90%, English 70%, Maths 85%.

What difference would five more KUAT marks make?
The effect depends on the subject's weight. In the Engineering & Petroleum example, raising Maths from 85 to 90 adds 1.00 percentage point to the equivalent rate, making it 87.00%. Raising English from 70 to 75 adds 0.75 percentage points, making it 86.75%, with the other scores unchanged.
For Pharmacy, English and Maths have equal weights. A five-point increase in either adds 0.75 percentage points. These are mathematical comparisons, not promises of test improvement.
Scores cannot exceed 100. If your score is 98, the comparison up to 100 represents a two-point increase. Consider both the weight and where you need practice; a higher weight is not a reason to ignore the other subject.
Common calculation mistakes
- Using a different college's weights.
- Treating a missing score as zero. You can explore an assumed score before taking a test, but the result is hypothetical.
- Adding Chemistry when its role is placement only.
- Confusing a minimum school-percentage condition with a competitive admission cutoff.
For example, strong aptitude scores might produce a high calculated rate for Medicine even with a school percentage below 85%. That calculation does not remove the published school condition.
