Which KUAT Tests Do You Need? A 2026/27 Guide by Target College

“Do I need English, Maths or Chemistry for the college I want?”

That question matters because Kuwait University does not use every aptitude-test subject in exactly the same way for every college.

Some scores contribute directly to the equivalent rate. Some tests may be required for placement but carry no equivalent-rate weight.

The table below focuses on the English, Mathematics and Chemistry tests covered by WoWPrep and uses Kuwait University's published 2026/27 weighting table.

The quick view

— means this college sets no minimum above Kuwait University's general admission requirement. General minimums apply to all applicants and are announced each year.

Do not look at the weights alone

The weighting table is only part of the admission picture.

For 2026/27, the official Kuwait University table also specifies a minimum secondary-school percentage of:

• 85% for Medicine and Dentistry
• 80% for Pharmacy, Public Health, Allied Health Sciences, and Engineering & Petroleum

This distinction matters.

For example, a student should not calculate a strong Medicine equivalent rate using an 82% school result and assume that this alone makes them eligible to compete for Medicine. The separate secondary-school minimum must also be satisfied.

The equivalent-rate calculation and the minimum admission conditions are related, but they are not the same thing.

This is not a complete list of every Kuwait University college or every possible aptitude test. Some colleges use Arabic or other requirements. Always check the university's full current table for your exact programme.

Medicine and Dentistry

For Medicine and Dentistry, the published weighting is 75% secondary school, 15% English and 10% Maths.

That means English affects the equivalent rate more than Maths point-for-point. It does not mean Maths can be ignored. Both are part of the published formula.

Pharmacy and Public Health

For Pharmacy and Public Health, the weighting is 70% secondary school, 15% English and 15% Maths.

English and Maths carry equal weight in the equivalent-rate formula.

Engineering & Petroleum

For Engineering & Petroleum, the weighting is 65% secondary school, 15% English and 20% Maths.

Maths carries the larger KUAT weight. Chemistry is marked as placement-only in the published table, meaning it does not contribute to the equivalent rate there.

That distinction is important: not weighted does not necessarily mean irrelevant.

Allied Health Sciences

The current table lists:

• minimum secondary-school percentage: 80%
• 70% secondary-school weight
• 20% English
• 10% Maths
• Chemistry for placement only

English therefore has a particularly significant weight in the equivalent-rate formula.

Chemistry does not contribute to the equivalent-rate number for this college, but the published table still identifies it as a placement test.

Architecture, Life Sciences and Business Administration

The published table gives English and Maths a 15% weight each for Architecture, Life Sciences and Business Administration.

For Business Administration, Kuwait University also specifies an additional condition:

The English Aptitude Test score must be 40% or above.

Students targeting Business Administration therefore need to consider both the equivalent-rate weighting and this separate English-test condition.

Why this should change how you study

Suppose two students have the same weaknesses. Student A wants Engineering & Petroleum. Student B wants Medicine.

It would not make sense for them to prioritise every subject in exactly the same way.

Your preparation should consider how far you are from your target, which tests your college uses, the weight of each test, and whether a subject is weighted or placement-only.

This does not mean studying only the highest-weighted subject. It means making informed decisions instead of treating every test as identical.
