KUAT Pass Marks Explained: English 60%, Maths & Chemistry 50%

Three pass-mark stat blocks

The KUAT pass marks for the core subjects are: English 60%, Mathematics 50%, Chemistry 50%. Simple numbers — but they should shape how you spend your preparation time. Here's how.

Why English sits higher

English asks for 60% across 85 questions in 60 minutes. The higher bar plus the question count means pacing is everything — you can know the material and still miss the mark if you run out of time. Build reading speed early (KUAT English timing).

Why Maths and Chemistry are 50% — but not "easier"

A 50% pass mark sounds gentler, but Maths has no calculator (train for it here) and Chemistry is the gate for competitive majors (guide here). The pass line is lower; the pressure isn't.

Passing vs. competing

Hitting the pass mark and being competitive for your major are different things. For the most contested seats, you're not aiming to scrape a pass — you're aiming to strengthen your combined admission figure (how admission works). Treat pass marks as the floor, not the goal.

What this means for your plan

Put time where you're furthest from your target, weighted by what your major needs. If Medicine is the goal, a comfortable English score and a weak Chemistry score is the wrong balance.
